MICRONEEDLING

What is Microneedling?

Microneedling is a minimally invasive, medical-grade skin rejuvenation procedure to treat fine lines, wrinkles, acne scars, and improve skin texture. As we age, collagen and elastin break down, causing the formation of wrinkles.

Microneedling involves a mechanical pen with 16 disposable, sterile needles which creates micro-injuries to the skin. The micro-injuries cause increased production of collagen and elastin, which leads to more glowing, healthy, and youthful skin.

Microneedling can improve:

  • fine lines and wrinkles

  • the appearance of scars, including acne scars

  • hyperpigmentation/dark spots, and uneven skin tone

  • skin laxity and texture

  • hair loss (eyebrows, scalp, temples, etc.)

This Healthline article offers a good overview of microneedling, which is NOT the same as dermarolling (not recommended!).

Before and After Three Sessions of Microneedling

What You Can Expect

Your treatment begins with an application of numbing cream to the area to be treated. A Celluma LED light will be placed over the area treated for while you numb for 20 minutes. While you relax with the light, you will receive a body acupuncture treatment that matches your facial constitution and then rest. The skin is then thoroughly cleansed and prepared to start the treatment. Your practitioner will perform the microneedling with a hyaluronic acid and stem cell/peptide serum, adjusting as needed for your skin type. Some people feel slight discomfort during treatment. After your treatment, a soothing cream will be applied to the area.

Following the treatment, we recommend you avoid direct sunlight for 24 hours, and use mineral sunscreen. Your skin might be slightly red for a day or two, but there is no downtime. More detailed after-care instructions will be provided.

Patients report more glowing, smoother, and vibrant skin within a week or two, though the full benefits of collagen and elastin growth begin at ~2 weeks. Treatment once a month for 3-4 months is recommended for the maximum benefit. Maintenance treatment can be yearly, or as desired to sustain your goals.
